You might know that Pam gets to interview a lot of great musicians on her radio show at 89.7fm WNKU.  Recently on her Sunday Noon-3pm show, "The Front Porch", Pam got to speak with Chris Thile, Bryan Sutton and the How to Grow a Band.  Listen to the segment here!

Happy New Year!  Great year-end shows, our Roots Band and Folkies do Traditional Jazz.

Sunday, January 20, 2008

Well, Happy New Year.  One more year until the "end of an error".  Can't wait.  Maybe things'll get better for the arts and education across the country.  Work for change!

We had some great shows toward the end of '07 with wonderful receptions and near sold-out crowds at a few places.  Always fun.  Thanks to the great folks at the Midland Theatre, Abbey Theater and Mercantile Library for having the duo and quartet in to play.

Speaking of the quartet!  We have been working hard with our new Roots Band and have begun to take it on the road.  So much fun!  And we've been getting great reviews.  So, look for the quartet coming to a venue near you soon.  Check the calendar.

"We knew we'd hear great music, but you all did a great SHOW!"

- Recent concert goer.

We've always thrown in a few jazzz standards to any set and over the last year an a half, we've made a few trips to the big apple to record with Hank Ross, Pam's uncle.  Hank's a carreer traditional jazz pianist.  We all gave our "two cents" in chosing the tunes (all jazz standards), worked them up and with one or two rehearsals in Hank's apartment, went in to a studio in Brooklyn to lay them down.  Joining us, were great musicians on bass, clarinet and trumpet.  We called in the Roots Band to add a few vocals and the final project is in the works...time, money, time, money...always the limiting factors, but we really do think we'll get it done and out for you sometime this year! Keep checking back for details.  We'll try to get some rehearsal video and mp3s up for you too.

A few other odds and ends for you:  Pam was elected to an office on the board of the Ohio Arts Presenters Network , an organization we've been involved with for a few years now and we continue to work a lot with the Queen City Balladeers, presenting great folk and accoustic music in a true listening venue.  Spencer continues to have a heavy student load and Pam's still spinning the tunes on  89.7fm WNKU.  So, between making it, spinning it, teaching it and booking it...we're busy!  All good.

Shows coming up in '08 in WV (duo), Louisville, KY (band), Columbus, OH (band) and Cleveland (band).  We'll look forward to seeing you on the road.  Check the calendar for a show near you!   Recordings are, of course, always available at our boutique.

Thanks for listening!

We are honored to have been chosen twice to tour Chile as "Folk Music Ambassadors".  It's a beautiful country and we were lucky to see more of it than most Chileans do as we toured up and down the coast playing festivals, concerts and master classes.  Here are a few shots.

Spencer on a typical "street" in Valparaiso, Chile, our favorite place in Chile.  It's an artists' town, built on seven steep hills above a bay.  When we win the lottery, we're gonna move here.

The view of beautiful Valparaiso from late Chilean poet Pablo Neruda's office window. Green ink stains in the sink.

In front of the postcard-perfect volcano in Villa Rica, Chile during our tour.

Students at the liberal arts college in Santiago, Chile.  We gave a master class during our recent tour.
