| Carrot Sounds
City Beat – Spill It, February 4-10,
1999
Local duo wild carrot, nominated for Best Folk act at
the last Cincinnati Entertainment Awards – the first and only
awards show to honor the area’s best in local theater and music
– will celebrate the release of their debut album, Defined,
with a show at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Norwood on Friday .
The record showcases the songwriting and interpretive skills of respected
local musicians Pamela Temple and Spencer Funk. In an acoustic setting,
the duo digs up the roots of Folk music and puts their own stamp on
them, sprinkling things with Blues and Jazz inflections. Half of the
songs are original tracks, but even traditional fare – “Ain’t
Nobody Here but Us Chicken” and “Over the Rainbow”
– sounds fresh and invigorating.
Defined is a beautiful display of pure Folk music, run through
the minds of two artists who clearly have a grasp on a diverse range
of music and an eye on contemporary sounds. Sparse but spirited, the
record benefits form the clear rapport between these two accomplished
performers.
Wild carrot will also appear on the show Kindred Sanction on WAIF (88.3
FM) this Thursday at 8pm to promote the disc.
