From New York to Nashville!
You’ve heard of the mythical crossroads of the Blues. Country and Bluegrass has a crossroads too – Cincinnati, OH! The music trail from Nashville and places south to the North and East often included a stop in the Queen City so that musicians traveling through could pick up a bass player or fiddle player for their shows north or south of the Ohio River. Some of the best country and bluegrass artists also came to Cincinnati to record at the renowned King Records Studios.
Popular award-winning Americana group, Wild Carrot (Pam Temple & Spencer Funk) perform a set of classic country and bluegrass songs from early Grand Ole Opry stars like The Delmore Brothers (who recorded at King Records in Cincinnati) and Bill Monroe (the Father of Bluegrass). The show will feature songs by popular artists from the past like Lefty Frizzel (who sang “If You’ve Got the Money, Honey I’ve Got the Time) along with some of the best of today’s songwriting out of Nashville. You’ll be all set for your visit to Music City!

The songs and music of cowboys have held a special place in the musical heritage of the United States for over 80 years. Originally sung by cowboys to pass the time and as entertainment, while working the cattle, cowboy songs became a massively popular subgenre within country music in the 1930s. As a result, the life of the cowboy came to be one of the major themes of country music, with the cowboy's freedom, individuality, and closeness to nature appearing in country songs even today.

Join us for this engaging show featuring songs from different genres about rain, floods and related natural disasters such as “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” (Willie Nelson), “Early Morning Rain” (Gordon Lightfoot & Peter, Paul and Mary), and tunes from the American Songbook like “Singing in the Rain” and “Stormy Weather,” Wild Carrot originals, and, of course, “Wasn’t That a Mighty Storm.”
